Eight-property portfolio will generate more than 25 million kWh of clean energy annually, using existing rooftops instead of open land

NEWPORT, Del. October 15, 2026 — King Energy, the nationwide leader in multi-tenant commercial solar, today announced a partnership with Harvey Hanna & Associates, a Delaware-based commercial real estate developer, to bring rooftop community solar to eight properties across New Castle County, Delaware. The portfolio is currently in development and is projected to represent over 19.0 MWdc of solar capacity and to generate more than 25.4 million kWh of clean electricity annually once fully online, enough to avoid an estimated 15.1 million pounds of carbon dioxide emissions each year.

The program will convert more than 1.8 million square feet of existing commercial rooftops, owned and managed by Harvey Hanna, into solar generation sites. Because the projects sit on rooftops rather than open land, they add renewable capacity to the state’s grid without utilizing Delaware’s open green space, a sensible way to grow solar development

Delaware currently imports roughly 80% of the power it consumes, a dependence that has drawn increased attention from state leaders as energy costs rise. Governor Matt Meyer has been a vocal advocate for expanding in-state rooftop solar as a way to strengthen energy security and ease costs for residents. The King Energy and Harvey Hanna portfolio is expected to contribute approximately 2.2% of the solar generation Delaware needs to meet its Renewable Portfolio Standard, which requires the state’s utilities to source 40% of their energy from renewables by 2035.

The program is also designed to expand access to clean energy for low-to-moderate income (LMI) households, helping more Delaware residents benefit from lower utility costs regardless of whether they own a rooftop of their own.

For Harvey Hanna, the partnership reflects a long-term approach: King Energy owns and operates the systems for the life of the assets, giving the properties a solar partner invested in performance for decades, not just a construction vendor for a single project.

“This partnership shows what’s possible when property owners see the value that can be unlocked on top of their own buildings,” said John Witchel, CEO of King Energy. “Delaware imports most of its power and has very little open land to build new renewable projects on, so rooftop community solar makes sense: it uses space that already exists, brings clean energy directly to nearby residents, and helps the state meet its renewable energy goals without competing for land. Harvey Hanna recognized that opportunity early, and we’re proud to bring this portfolio online with them.”

“Our rooftops have always been an asset, and this partnership lets us put them to work,” said Thomas Harvey, Managing Director, Harvey Hanna & Associates. “King Energy makes it easy to turn underused rooftops into long-term clean energy for our properties and the surrounding community, with a partner we’re confident in for the long haul.”

Flagship Projects

The largest site in the portfolio is Jamison Corner Road in New Castle, a 5,200 kWdc installation projected to generate more than 6.8 million kWh annually. The second-largest, at 400 Ships Landing Way, is expected to produce more than 3.7 million kWh per year from a 2,856.6 kWdc system. Together with six additional properties in New Castle and Middletown, the full portfolio represents one of the largest rooftop community solar commitments in the state. All eight projects are served by Delmarva Power and remain in development, with the program expected to come online in the coming years. To learn more, visit kingenergy.com and harveyhanna.com
